SPATIAL RESOLUTION

Derenzo phantom

Rod arrays offer a visual way to assess spatial resolution. SwissNuCRO’s manufacturing approach supports radioactive foreground structures with a differently active background.

MEASURED IMAGES / PRECLINICAL PET

PET images of Derenzo
and NEMA phantoms.

Three rows comparing printed phantom examples: top, PET views of a Derenzo phantom without background activity; middle, Derenzo PET views with background activity; bottom, a NEMA phantom photograph and PET views. The original image includes colour scales, crosshairs and a 3 cm scale bar.

Top row: Derenzo phantom without background activity. Foreground activity concentration: 69.6 kBq/mL.

Middle row: Derenzo phantom with background activity. Foreground: 69.6 kBq/mL; background: 7.2 kBq/mL, giving a ratio of approximately 10:1.

Bottom row: Photograph and PET images of a preclinical NEMA phantom, with background activity at one tenth of the foreground activity. Sphere diameters: 4, 3, 2, 1.6 and 1.2 mm.

All PET images were acquired on a preclinical Super Argus PET/CT scanner (Sedecal, Algete, Spain). Colours show detected activity. The figure is reproduced unchanged.

THE MANUFACTURING APPROACH

From digital geometry
to a physical reference.

Radionuclides are incorporated directly into a 3D-printable polymer matrix.

The geometry and activity distribution are defined digitally. The resulting solid-state source can take forms that are difficult to achieve with conventional liquid-filled phantoms and their inactive separating walls.

Our initial focus is Ge-68 reference phantoms for PET/CT, alongside related test bodies for instruments such as dose calibrators and gamma counters.

01

Define

Discuss the instrument, geometry and measurement task.

02

Manufacture

Translate a digital design into a radioactive solid-state body.

03

Evaluate

Characterise the source for its intended measurement workflow.

CUSTOM GEOMETRIES

Your measurement task.
Your reference geometry.

From imaging phantoms to related measurement-chain test bodies, the design starts with your application. Discuss shape, activity requirements, instrument compatibility and the documentation you need.

Product scope, technical specifications, delivery conditions and availability are agreed for each project. Additional isotopes and SPECT applications remain development opportunities.
